Mushtaqs restaurant in Hamilton with a seating capacity of 36 is set to create 50 new jobs on top of the 34 strong team currently in place.
The restaurant, which was recently crowned as the best Home Delivery and Takeaway Restaurant in Britain at the recent British Curry Awards, is looking to build on its’ current 29minute home delivery service which has proved to be an outstanding success.
With 18 chefs, the restaurant has a current output of one freshly cooked meal every 10 seconds during peak times and is unable to expand on this due to the size of the current kitchen.
Planning permission has been granted to build a new state of the art custom built kitchen that will enable a cooking capacity of 4000 meals per night and the 50 posts would be located at Almada Street, Hamilton.
Mushtaqs said it expected the new kitchen to be ready by January 2014. The half million pound investment will accelerate the growth in both the 29 Minute Home Delivery Service and the Takeaway Service.
Fergus Ewing, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism welcomed the job boost to the Lanarkshire area. He said: "50 new jobs in Lanarkshire is great news for the hospitality sector in the local area.
"I recognise the great work that Mushtaqs are doing to help young people into a number of these jobs through the Mushtaqs Training & Progression Programme.”
Maurice Logie, President of the Lanarkshire Chamber of commerce said: "Mushtaqs has been one of the outstanding business successes in Lanarkshire. They should be congratulated on maintaining strong growth during difficult economic times.”
Chef Director Ajmal Mushtaq said: “Customers have an appetite for fast efficient service and my team delivers the customers exactly what they want – great food within 29 minutes to their door. I am very excited at the prospect of creating new jobs and this new investment will enable us to further build on this success.”
The 50 new positions will be split across Chefs, Telephone Operators, Kitchen Assistants and Delivery Drivers.
The 50 jobs will be recruited in a rolling programme starting early 2014. The programme of works is currently under tender and is due to start this autumn.
